Abstract

The beginning of the third millennium has brought up in Romania significant changes as far as the demographic and economic phenomena in general, and the workforce from the rural area in particular. The demographic evolution in Romania is influenced by multiple factors, including economic, social and political ones.This article aims at performing a quantitative analysis on the employment level and development trends of Romania’s rural area population at the regional level with a view of becoming competitive at the European level.

Madalina-Teodora ANDREI, National Agency for Natural Protected Areas/ Spiru Haret University

Mădălina-Teodora Andrei is senior lecturer at Faculty of Engineering, Computer Sciences and Geography, “Spiru Haret” University, from 1998 ever since, and Senior Counselor at National Agency for Natural Protected Areas/Ministry of Environment from 2017 ever since. She graduated from Bucharest University and she holds a BA, a MA and PhD in Human and Economic Geography. Her fields of research and expertise are Human Geography (Demography, settlement Geography), Economic Geography (especially, tourism geography), Cultural Geography, Political Geography. She has written 8 books (Contemporary Political Geography: Power and Teritory, Danube Valley between Giurgiu and Braila - Study of Human and Economic Geography, Tourism Geography in Romania and European Union, World Economic Geography, Geography of Population and Human Settlements) and more than 80 articles on topics related to the above-mentioned domains of Geography (39 papers indexed ISI and IDB). She is Managing Editor at Addleton Academics Publishers, New York (Landscapes: Perception, Knowledge and Action - Proceedings).
